What is special about our Ayahuasca Experience Retreat

The ceremony is embedded in a calming and relaxed time with yoga and meditation. You will be consciously guided toward the ceremony from the very beginning of the journey. Even the food and drinks are tailored to this.
The process of our Ayahuasca ceremony with the shaman Edu, who has his integrative center right here in the neighborhood, is tailored to our guests and developed especially for us.
This means you won't experience your experience in a large group of people, but rather one tailored to your individual needs, with your companion or a small group. The Ayahuasca ceremony takes place outdoors, with up to three doses of the Ayahuasca drink, optionally with "rapé," a type of snuff containing herbs that are blown into your nose, and "sananga," natural plant drops intended to stimulate the eyes for greater receptivity.
Throughout the entire ceremony, you'll have your personal Guardian Angel at your side, so to speak. They'll watch over you the entire time and respond to your reactions and experiences as they arise, thus guiding the positive course of the event. The ceremony lasts all night, and the next morning you'll receive a small breakfast, where you'll discuss the night's experience with your shaman and Guardian.
Before each participation, it is absolutely necessary to complete a medical history form, which will be carefully reviewed by Edu to ensure your ceremony is a positive and memorable experience. (Certain medical conditions and medications may preclude participation in the ceremony.)
Of course, we will take you to the center and pick you up again the next morning.

What is Ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca: Composition, origin, effects, and legality in Brazil

Ayahuasca is a traditional, psychoactive plant brew from South American medicine, used for centuries by indigenous peoples of the Amazon. It serves spiritual, religious, and healing purposes and is now one of the best-known ritual plant medicines worldwide. The combination of selected plants provides profound introspective experiences that are often described as transformative.

What is Ayahuasca? – Composition and Effects

The ayahuasca brew consists primarily of two plants:

1. Banisteriopsis caapi – a vine rich in harmala alkaloids (MAO inhibitors).

2. Psychotria viridis or Diplopterys cabrerana – leaves containing DMT (dimethyltryptamine).

The harmala alkaloids from the vine prevent the DMT from being immediately broken down in the body. This allows it to exert its full effect and leads to a trance-like state of consciousness. The combination of these two plants is unique and makes ayahuasca one of the most potent entheogenic brews in the world.

Traditional Uses

Ayahuasca has been used since ancient times by ethnic groups throughout the Amazon region—in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador. Its preparation and use are deeply rooted in their cultures and are performed in ritual ceremonies that promote spiritual insights, healing, and a connection with nature.

Ayahuasca has been used since ancient times by ethnic groups throughout the Amazon region—in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador.

In Brazil, ayahuasca is also used in several recognized religious communities, such as:

• União do Vegetal (UDV)

• Santo Daime

• Barquinha

These religions have state-guaranteed rights to use ayahuasca, which is unique worldwide.

Regional Distribution

Although ayahuasca originated in the Amazon basin, it has since spread globally. Brazil is now considered one of the most important centers for safe, legal, and professional ayahuasca ceremonies.

Is ayahuasca legal in Brazil?

Yes.

Brazil is one of the few countries in the world where the use of ayahuasca is completely legal—both religiously and spiritually—within the framework of clearly defined guidelines.

• The Brazilian government has officially recognized ayahuasca as a sacramental plant-based beverage since 1987.

• Production adheres to strict quality standards.

• Ayahuasca in Brazil is not produced synthetically or sold on the black market, but rather by authorized groups that prioritize purity, sustainability, and safety.

This makes Brazil one of the most reputable countries in the world for an ayahuasca experience.

Why Ayahuasca in Salvador da Bahia?

Unlike many retreats in Peru or overcrowded tourist areas of the Amazon, Bahia offers:

• a safe, legal, and established environment

• professional retreat guidance

• high-quality, officially produced ayahuasca preparations

• a unique combination of spiritual journey and tropical beaches

Many guests combine their retreat with excursions to:

• the beaches of the Bahia coast

• the breathtaking Chapada Diamantina region

• or tours of Rio de Janeiro and other locations in Brazil.

Your Retreat – reputable, safe, and transformative

At Ayahuasca Retreat Brazil, guests experience an authentic, legal, and responsibly guided ceremony. The purity of the herbal steam, the tranquil setting at the Hotel Pousada Rancho Fundo and the Luz da Gaya Center, and the professional guidance create a safe environment for profound inner processes.

One example is our guest B. Schmidt from Memphis, a 60-year-old music manager, who described his experience as one of the top five trips of his life. He was able to process personal issues and returned with renewed courage and clarity.
